                     After the Battle of Mohács, the Kingdom of Hungary was on its knees.


                     The king together with archbishops, prelates and district governors had

                     died in the battle. The Kingdom remained without the king, so Hungarian

                     classes had to choose one. But there were two candidates for the crown,

                     Ferdinand Habsburg and John Zápolya.
