A formal and secret agreement between Ferdinand I and John Zápolya
was made on February 24, 1938. This agreement is called the Treaty of
Nagyvárad. Based on this agreement, Hungary was officially divided into
two parts. Moreover, they agreed on the future union of both parts under
Ferdinand I´s rule. John Zápolya agreed with this because he did not have
children. But in 1940, before his death, John Sigmund Zápolya was born.
