Black army
Corvinus had a unique army. Matthias' army was called the "black army." It was a
professional army. Only France, of all the kingdoms, also had a professional army. At the
beginning, the army numbered only between 6,000 and 8,000 men. At its peak, it had between
25,000 and 30,000 men. The army was the mercenary force. The soldiers were very well paid,
(5 florin per person).
